30-07-2008 :: To Paint The Kettle Black.
At the end of August, from the 22nd to the 24th to be precise, I'll be taking part of the Can !t festival at Kavka in Antwerp. If you really want to see me make a complete ass of myself in the company of people who can actually draw and paint, and most likely will be a hell of a lot more prepared for this thing than I am, please do drop by to say hello.

By the way, "I am not the walrus but he is" coming soon to flikker and choochube.
17-06-2008 :: Chubby Checker And The Fat Boys.
Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook returns with a new side project, called BPA. The first single is called Toe Jam, and features Dizzee Rascal and David Byrne. I must admit I'm not particularly blown away by it (nor by anything else he's ever done - sorry), but it has a pretty ace video to accompany the release. Check it out on Choo Chube.
29-05-2008 :: Climbing Up The Walls.
Pretty fucking amazing!
31-05-2008 :: Making Flippy Floppy.
In my plan to take over the whole internet, I did another little interview. It's in the second issue of on Lateflip magazine, a really cool Belgian online skateboard magazine. If you're flipping through the pages, it actually sounds like it too, so that's pretty rad. They also did an interview with notorious Malines child molesters and satanists Loathus, and had a talk with Seldon Hunt at his Mechanical Insektrospective exhibition in Antwerp.
The premier issue featured an interview with Ward Zwart, The Locust and We'rewolves, so be sure to check that one out as well.
Be it on a skateboard, or in a van, Awesome Color is still on the prowl in Eurocountry, be sure to check them out if they play a city or a wedding anniversary near you.
21-05-2008 :: Sitting Around At Home.
I did a little interview with a sweet English crumpet turned Philly cheesesteak on her blog called Tea And Biscuits. Go check it out and tell her I said hi.
17-05-2008 :: Come And Dance.
This Monday, after the awesome Pissed Jeans/Vogue show at Scheld'apen, the awesome Awesome Color will play at the awesome fool moon partay at the Campine bar, Cadixstraat in the awesome north of Antwerp. If you're awesome and you like awesome music, you'd better come and dance!
Awesome Color also just released a brand new awesome full length called Electric Aborigines on Ecstatic Peace, and you can check out two new songs on this page.
While on the subject of absolute awesomeness, Chris Corsano ("fucking awesome"), Orphan Fairytale and John Olson ("Dude, we just thought of a new name for your label"), will play at Tyfus' "I never liked neon until I met you" Exhibition at Stella Lohaus Gallery. Come early, because the show will start around dinner time!
08-05-2008 :: His Hero Is Gone.
Former Beerschot striker and last year's top scorer, Francois Sterchele, died yesterday night because of a serious car crash, after visiting friends in Antwerp. This dude was a joy to watch both on and off the pitch, if only because of his captivating smile. He will be missed by pretty much any football lover out here. Thanks for the good times!

Sterchelé, Olé Olé.

To pay your respect, you can go here and here
05-05-2008 :: Boards Of Canada.
THE SKATEBOARDS HAVE ARRIVED! Only two months late. They look pretty fucking amazing though. Premium black and white screenprint on grey stained 7-ply Canadian Maple boards, with a real nice blue stained top finish, 7.625 inches wide. Each board comes individually shrinkwrapped. Be sure to visit '85 gallery this weekend to check them out in real life.
I'm also working hard on finishing the third Mixed Ape, the golden issue, which should be released pretty soon as well.
19-04-2008 :: I've Still Got You (ice Cream).
The long awaited skateboards should arrive all the way from Germania this Friday, only seven weeks late, so let's celebrate. If all goes well (no extra delays), this means that the boards could be available this weekend at the DIAMANT shop at '85 gallery.
Which reminds me; little miss '85, aka Kid Vanilla, was featured in this weekend's DM Magazine, which comes free with the weekend edition of De Morgen. Be sure to check it out if you know where to get your paper on a Sunday, or try to find it in your local café/coffee place.
12-02-2008 :: Knowing Me Knowing You.
I'll be part of a little group show called Ons Kent Ons, which will open this Saturday at Mekanik strip. It's funny to be described as 'promising young talent' in the group show bio, especially since I'm pretty sure I'm the oldest person out of the 16 artists that are contributing.
That same Saturday is also the day the Freaks End Future store will close its doors, so go pay them a visit as well.
Aaand on Friday, Australia's biggest globetrotter, and longtime Conspiracy collaborator, Seldon Hunt, will open his Mechanical Insektrospective show at Cultural Center Airbag in Antwerp.
05-02-2008 :: These Vagabond Shoes.
I was lucky enough to get namedropped in an online travel article about Antwerp on New York Magazine Online. I'm being credited as a graffiti artist though, which I am definitely not, I simply don't have the skills to pull it off. I make silly drawings, self-publish crappy little magazines, shirts, posters and stickers, and do a hell of a lot more stuff that people would categorise as being a waste of time (as seen on this site, or on my Flickr). Also, the orientation of the writer temporarily abandoned him, probably due to a jet lag or something. Sure, our city is a little town compared to the Big Apple, but in no way is it little enough so that you can keep an eye on the Muntplein, while eating at Brasserie Moderne, which is located at the St. Paulus (Mc's) Plaats. It's at least a five minute walk from one to the other.
Still, it's great to get mentioned in an international article, so thanks!
08-01-2008 :: There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.
Even though last year ended on a happy note, the day before, me and roughly about 500 other people said goodbye to a place that possibly holds more Belgian music history than all other venues combined. It was cool to see recently disbanded bands as Dead Stop and Restless Youth reform, and perform awesome sets for this special occasion. But still, it's going to sting like a motherfucker, driving past this historic venue, realising that after 25 years, all of this is gone. Kind of like driving by the house you grew up in, or the one your grandmother used to live in. Lintfabriek, rest in peace.
Paco Weekenstro has a bunch of pictures up on his website, as do a bunch of Germans whose site I can't seem to find at the moment. Just check the pictures on the Lintfabriek myspace, they're all up there. You might even spot some of your 90's heroes.

As if shutting down is the new crack, Freaks end future, Antwerps friendliest, smallest, and probably loudest music store is closing down at the end of the month as well. Pay them a visit, as you can get pretty much everything at a reasonably reduced price.

I'll be there after I finish my coffee, and listen to some Carlos Santana.
15-12-2007 :: Hey Ma.
HEMA now sells their stuff online, and the way to address this to the people is simply awesome. Best thing I've seen in quite some time.

By the way, tomorrow is Poupie Whoopy's big second book launch at Scheld'apen, with crazy performances and probably the worst dj set ever. I managed to get a preview copy, and I can tell you it looks twice as good as the previous one. I really hope you and your Russian friend show up for the party.
5 Europoppers will make sure you get in on all the festivities, 15 Eurodollars will make sure you get in, AND will provide you with enough brand spankin' new spankin' material to last you, well, a whole Sundayafternoon.
02-11-2007 :: Youth Body Expression Explosion.
This saturday, I will have three brand spankin' new A0-sized prints up at Typexplosia, the Integrated afterparty/shindig at MuHKA_media, one night only. Also, the almighty Guy Rombouts will show off his azart font and the Letterleggers (Font Layers) will show a selection of their taped performances as well.
18-10-2007 :: Ride The Fucker 'Till The Wheels Fall Off.
Another cool television ad. I'm liking it.
10-10-2007 :: Hey Hey, We're The Monkeys.
Here's a little video that was sent to me by Guy Rombouts, he's been updating me with noteworthy monkey blogs and news, which is great. The video shows the findings of Dr. Susan Savage-Rumbaugh, and features bonobo's making tools, communicating with people, playing music AND playing Pac-Man. Pretty amazing dookie.
09-10-2007 :: Make Like A Banana And Split.
It was quite a show at Lintfabriek this weekend, the place was packed and the schedule was way off as usual. Fire marshalls kept an eye on the place, and the cops kept driving by as well. Ofcourse, even under extreme supervision, accidents can still happen, as a keg of beer landed on a girl's toe during our set, I almost got beat up by one of my buddies, and another one of my friends had to get stitches after some dude planted a stagedive on his face, which caused a couple of teeth to pierce through his lip. Nice!
Still, it remains weird to think about the fact that this place will soon disappear, which is why some people have set up an online petition, even if only to demonstrate how much impact this place has had over the years, and remains to have to this day. If you haven't already, please go ahead and sign it if you also feel that the Lintfabriek should stay. I think it should even be protected as a cultural heritage. Imagine the Belgian (and European) punk and rock scene without this place.
03-10-2007 :: Happy Birthday, Now Fuck Off!
The almighty and legendary Lintfabriek is celebrating its 25th birthday in style, by putting up a show with a bunch of bands that have played amazing sets on their stage in the past, including Rise And Fall, Justice and True Colors, all bands that you might have seen in my portfolio. My own band is playing as well, and I couldn't be happier to share the stage with these dudes. We have a new song up on our myspace.
Sadly enough, there is some serious bad news as well. After years of problems with the neighbours, the fire marshall, the city council and the shop across the road, the European CBGB's will have to close the doors of their current location at the end of the year. From what I've gathered, the council has promised to help look for a new location, but it will definitely not be the same. The history of this venue lies in the building, not just in its name.
22-09-2007 :: The Only Sellin' Out I Do Is Sellin' Out Shirts.
The new shirts arrived last week, and they're going really fast. The wordplay shirt is already completely sold out, and I've only got ONE girlie and ONE large shirt left of the Unknown design. I'm pretty sure the infrared Tittygrabs are going to go fast once people see other people wearing one, so think fast.

There's also still a bunch of Abandon Ship shirts available too, which I made for Autumn Delay. Go consume!
22-09-2007 :: My House Changed Into A Black Swan And I Flew Away With It.
While waiting for the new shirts to arrive, or to even get a preview from the printing company, actor and theatre-maker Benjamin Verdonck was spotted wearing one of my Velvet Underground & Apetown shirts in the new Toneelhuis programme booklet and website.
11-08-2007 :: A Different Catalog Number For Every Release.
Tony Wilson, co-founder of the legendary Factory records, has died yesterday of a heart attrack at the age of 57. This is the dude who signed bands like Joy Division, New order and later on Happy Mondays to his label. He had just battled cancer a mere months ago, but doctors claimed the heart attack had nothing to do with that.
It was only last month that me and my band passed through Manchester to go see a bunch of other befriended bands, that we passed the old Haçienda site, and I started lecturing my bandmates in the van about all the shit Tony's pulled out of his sleeve. They looked at me as if I was a lunatic, and probably rightfully so.
If you're still unaware of who Tony Wilson was, I'd suggest watching the film 24 Party People, it's not the greatest movie ever made, but it'll give you some sort of clue nonetheless. And designer geeks like me will go nuts over the Factory Records, The Complete Graphic Album book. I was lucky enough to get my hands on it the previous time I passed through Madchester.

Tony, rest in peace.
10-08-2007 :: I Need Air.
Hell yeah! Forget about beef steak, hand farts are the new black!
01-08-2007 :: Paper Cuts.
Dearest readers, MIXED APE #2 is available NOW! It's 32 pages worth of apetown mish mash, drawings and sketches, plus distorted and found images. And it's A6-sized for a change, which is HUGE compared to previous releases. Limited to 100 copies, handnumbered. Manually folded and stapled as well, but copied by a machine, if that's okay for you guys. Black and white pages with a colored cover. I think the paper is partly recycled, but I'm not too sure, I'll start making that one of my priorities once I get Al Gore or Bono's paycheck. Or any paycheck for that matter.
All this goodie goodie sweetness is available now for 2,5 eurobucks. Or a nice trade.

PS I still have a bunch of UNMIXED APES ready to go as well. Combined with MA2 the total would be €3, which is still okay, right? Also, I've found about fifteen copies of MIXED APE #1 at Muffin's place, these are most definitely the absolute last ones I'll come across, so if you still want one of those, better think fast and act even faster.
24-07-2007 :: Du Jazz Dans Le Ravin.
Me and herr Tyfus made a little poster today for a free (jazz) fest organised by Radio Centraal.
While on that channel, be sure to tune in to Blaastaal, or go download their podcast. Me, Tiefoes and an English twat called Nick Andrews did a guest appearance on their July 9th episode. We also made some popcorn a few days later.
23-07-2007 :: Myths Of The Near Future.
The new apetown shirts are going to be released pretty soon, give it a few weeks. I kinda snoozed on the whole ordering process, and when you snooze you lose, so I've lost about two weeks, since the printer's going to take a little vacation. So bear with me. You can always email me to have yours set aside. Also, let's hope these will sell really fast, so I can get the Unknown Pleasures design printed in the near future as well, probably alongside another new design.

MIXED APE #2 is nearly finished. Still 6 pages/drawings and some printing, copying, cutting, folding and stapling to go, and I'm done. In the meantime, UNMIXED APE is still available. And really cheap.

While on the subject; there are already three (yes, 3!) new MIXED APES on their way as well. One being CONTROLEKAART C 3 A, the second one being CANCERBAGS. Apart from these two, I really need to get going on ZWARTAAP again too, which will be a collab with Ward Zwart. More on all these bitches later.

If you have some spare time on your hands, even if it's only five minutes or so, please go check out autumndelay.com, we've taken down the website to do some remodeling, but there's a video and a pictorial report of our UK tour up now. Normally what happens on the road stays on the road, but we were willing to take some of it home. We have some new shirts available too.

By the way, our buddies in Lavotchkin are coming back over in September, and we'll probably share a few shows. Keep an eye on our myspace. Or theirs.

I have some tittygrab posters available. As seen in the bar at the Scheld'apen squat. Only not that big. And with a pink background.

This website will be updated somewhere this week!

AND THEN SOME:
- Go preorder Rise And Fall's new 7", called "Clawing".
- Order one of the new GLW/DRK shirts.
- Go see Black Haven on their Dirty Black Summer tour.
- Go visit the new Lockwood store.
- Then pay a visit the other new Lockwood store, Avenue.
- Send me pictures and drawings of monkeys.
- Buy 'Fur And Gold' by Bat For Lashes and play it non-stop.
- FFTB / Attack! Vipers! / Errander / Lakes
- Hire me to do your shirts, posters, whatnot.
- Hire me. Period. I want a job. I want an income. I (still) want a Vespa.
28-04-2007 :: A Japanese Dream.
Cool and maybe even cooler.

It might sound unbelievable, but the new apetown site is still pretty much on its way. Finnish monkeys are working on it as we speak.

Type.

Whatever.

Btw, I used to have a major crush on Robyn. Just thought I'd share this little iddy bitty.
22-03-2007 :: Spoiler Alert!
Belgian sprout turned Canadian bacon, Kev the Spoiler, aka that dude that used to play bass for Justice, aka that dude that had the fanzine with naked chicks, aka that dude that made pretty much all those sweet Dead Stop and Justice shirts, aka that dude that used to chill at the friterie across from my house (still miss seeing him and his wife chilling there) now has a site that features his art. He's offering his skills and selling prints and paints, check it out and tell your friends: spoilerart.com.
07-03-2007 :: Woot Woot! What?
Oi! Check out Kris De Weerdt's brand spankin' new website. Dude's made some killer installations in the past few months/years. His drawings are equally amazing, and they made me feel even more like a talentless hack. You probably wouldn't have ever expected this sweet shit to come from that dude that was on stage with this police orchestra (RIP).

While on the "hey dude, check this out"-trip, be sure to check this cool typography whatyamacallit video.
27-02-2007 :: Counterculture.
Go here and download Tim Fite's brand new album 'Over The Counterculture' straight off his own website. Intelligent and folkish hip hop that'll be worth your while, dealing with the rising commercialism and 'bling bling' attitude of rap and hip hop nowadays. Check it! Be sure to explore said website as well, as it is filled with goodies, especially look out for the stories. Btw, camouflage is the new black.
While on the subject of the new black, and mass-/non-consumption, this shit is coming soon.
24-02-2007 :: Just For The Hell Of It.
My friends over at Conspiracy Records have given me a little spot in their webstore. Sweet! Even though there's some sort of a shop part coming up in the next design of this website, you can still expect future releases to pop up in their shop as well, just so you can combine my junk with their killer releases. And vice versa.
Been drawing a whole lot more the past few days/weeks, and I've been enjoying a whole lot more too. When inspiration strikes, you've got to seize the moment. Collab sessions are always a pleasure as well, I definitely want to do more of those again. Last week I was making skribbles with Tyfuss, Caramba, George W M and Billy Nace, and we had a blast. The result might even be screenprinted as a poster.
24-01-2007 :: New And Not So Improved.
Lechaim! First of all a belated happy newyear to all three of my regular visitors, thanks for hanging in there. Being busy is cool, but it also leads to slacking in other areas, i.e. updating this site (and others). So, to make up for this, I inserted a few new layout/designshizzles in the portfolio section of the site.
Another slacker, Benny Tiefschwartz, has finally gotten 'round to updating his potter cast again. Is nice! Furthermore, go visit the Poupi Whoopy website. It has pictures of naked ladies. Sort of. It also offers a way to get a real nice magazine with said pictures.
My newyear's resolution for 2007 includes a redesign of this website, and making it a bit more pc-user friendly, even though I think you're all a bunch of whining sissies. Send me your resolutions too. Especially because I don't even believe in those things.
20-12-2006 :: Freaks End Hits. And A Goodbye.
The new shirts ARE ready, and will cost you a whoppin' 16 euros instead of 15, but I'll throw in a free button to ease the pain.
Talking about pain, here's a small Leslie Keffer set at the Freaks End Future store. As I write this, the plane miss Keffer is on, heading back to Ohio, is probably producing less noise as she did these past few days.
12-12-2006 :: Escape Pods.
Just say yo. A bunch of new apetown stuff is just about ready to be consumed. The new shirts should be ready by the end of this week, and they will cost you 15 euros. I'm in the process of making a bunch of tote bags as well, but I haven't come up with a satisfying design yet. Hopefully more on those things later.
Mixed Ape #1 is out now. A small 32-page booklet filled with apetown skribbles and scrabbles, completed with oodles and doodles. 333 copies made. Handfolded and stapled, each and every one of these booklets will have a handwritten (not so) subliminal message inserted one way or another. Reactions so far have been overwhelmingly positive. Available for only one euro coin. I also made a bunch of new buttons, you can get two of those things for 1 euro.
Check out Anastasia Ward's creepy cute doll mutations. Equally eerie as amazing. You can also catch a little interview with her on the November 28th Rocketboom video blog/podcast.
17-11-2006 :: How To Stab In Time.
Allright kids, time for another small update. Not that anyone actually really cares, but I'll just pretend to have a bunch of regular visitors other than the stalker guy that used to live downstairs from me.
Aaanyway. There's a new t-shirt/textiles expo coming up at 85 gallery, one of the few places that could actually do with a website or a myspace page, but up until now still hasn't got either. The date should be somewhere around December 10th, but I'll definitely post the flyer once I get it in my hands. I'm planning on releasing a few new shirts, and maybe even a tote bag. Other than that, I'll also be releasing a little booklet filled with scribbles. It'll probably be handnumbered, just for the collector nerds.
While on the publications topic, my old Rotkop colleague Janoes Prutpoes will be releasing the brand new Poupi Whoopy magazine, which will be filled with a whole lot of yummy pictures. That's all I have to say about it for now. It'll be released at the Scheld'apen squad on december 16th. A flyer will be coming up as well.
To round up, a bunch of links. Breakcore mish-masher Sickboy, who runs around with constant wood, now also has a podcast. // I want this blender. // My cousins had a little cameo in a lip balm commercial.
09-10-2006 :: Inspirational Carpets.
After seeing this little lady's beautiful drawings, collages, objets trouvés and all of the above combined, at the recent popville expo, I decided it was, and is, definitely time for me to get my foot out of my ass, and start drawing some more again. Definitely go visit the expo if you're anywhere near Ghent, it will run until October 31st. Here's the flyer.
As far as me getting said foot out of my ass, I will start off by making a submission for the upcoming 3 voor 11 expo and auction at Cahier de Brouillon. //APE
29-05-2006 :: We Are Electric!
My buddy Benny Tyfuss has been taking baby steps into the worldwide interweb for quite some time now. He's had his regularly updated website for a while, and recently he added a newsgroup of some sort and a flickr account, but his next step was pretty unpredictable. He's fixed it so that his weekly radioshow is now also a podcast. Simply go here to subscribe or download. Regular guests include Stealing Muffins, Jelle Von Der WCCC and myself. Yay! //APE
